Do I need to get pet insurance? Yes or No?
Dear guardians of my furry friends,
The pet insurance question is kind of a tricky one. My mom and dad looked into pet insurances a while back and every one of them stated that you have to pay upfront at the vets office and then eventually, if everything is in order, they will reimburse you for the treatment.
That is something that is not very helpful. If I have to pay the whole amount first, and then hope that some part of it is covered and I get reimbursed, I do not need pet insurance.
Also, pre-existing conditions are not covered. Well, I do not have any, but the once mom checked all wanted you to sign up and then they will review the medical records and tell you if and what is not covered. I do not want to sign up into a binding contract and then find out that I am only covered for accidents for example.
There are so many things you have to pay extra, for example one of the pet insurances said that you have to get the more expensive plan, if you want the wellness visits covered. Really? I think those are the most important visits, because, if I am healthy, I will not need medical treatment. This is all backwards.
So eventually mom decided to not get pet insurance for me. Our vet is wonderful, because if I need some big medical treatment, mom and dad can pay in installments.
But by keeping me on healthy food and healthy treats, mom and dad try to limit any medical problems. Yes, I have to go to my yearly visits to see, if everything checks out, but that I do not mind – I like the car rides…
Also mom is asking for tests first, before I get any kind of shots. The one I have to have is the rabies shot – it is mandatory in Florida, but I get the 3 year one, so it is not so bad. Everything else will be determined, depending on the test.
So my dear guardians, do you have pet insurance for your furry kids?
Let’s talk about it. I am looking forward to a big miau conversation.
Miau Miau and I am going now to take a nap.
